The former Warrior can’t wrap his head around the fact that the Dubs traded a healthy, 24-year-old for a veteran with a terrible postseason injury history.
“I gotta be honest, I didn’t understand the Chris Paul trade,” Cousins said on Sirius XM NBA Radio. “Then I looked at it like maybe they want to free up the books for next season. But as far as it being about basketball and Xs and Os on the court, I don’t really see that elevating the Golden State Warriors. He’s up in age. You got rid of a young, youthful guy for an aging veteran. I’m not taking away from anything Chris Paul has done in his career I’m just speaking on this stage of his career. I don’t see him elevating the Golden State Warriors.”
It is well-known that Cousins doesn’t like CP3 at all, so his comments don’t come as much of a surprise.
Late last year, the free agent claimed that Paul doesn’t belong in the top five point guard’s of all time conversation. So he must have thought Paul was due for another sledging.
Until the season begins, it is hard to predict exactly what sort of impact CP3 will have on the Warriors franchise.
Some are tipping his slow and calculated playing style will appear clunky and won’t be a good fit.
But others are saying that his leadership, experience and playmaking ability will be just what the Dubs need to succeed.
Only time will tell.
Either way, it was clear Poole was causing a rift between the playing group so hopefully having Paul in his place will shake things up for the 2022 champions.
