A prosecutor announced on Tuesday the decision to combine separate legal cases pertaining to homicide, kidnapping, and scheme, thus enabling the former NBA G League athlete, Chance Comanche, and his former lover to face trial together.
Both individuals have been implicated in connection to the demise of a woman whose body was discovered in the southern region of Nevada last month.
Upon his initial court appearance, Chance Comanche, a 27-year-old Los Angeles native who previously competed for the Stockton Kings, remained restrained and admitted to the accusations against him with a respectful “Yes, ma’am” in reply to the judge’s inquiries.
His legal counsel, Gary Guymon, opted against an immediate plea for bail and refrained from further discourse following the brief court session. Guymon did indicate that Comanche plans to contest the charges during future hearings.
Meanwhile, Comanche’s ex-partner, 19-year-old Sakari Harnden, is also detained in Las Vegas awaiting a separate court date regarding a theft accusation linked to the incident involving Marayna Rodgers, a 23-year-old individual from Lynnwood, Washington, who was reported missing and subsequently found deceased.
Prosecutor Kennedy Holthus informed Judge Diana Sullivan that Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson intends to consolidate all accusations against both Comanche and Harnden.
Consequently, Judge Sullivan ordered Comanche to remain imprisoned without bail and scheduled his next court appearance for Feb. 8. The tragic occurrence involved Marayna Rodgers, a medical aide, allegedly strangled on Dec. 6. Her remains were later discovered in a roadside canal in suburban Henderson.
In the aftermath of Comanche’s arrest on Dec. 15 in Sacramento, California, the 6-foot-10 power forward and center was released from the Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings.
