It has been confirmed that Kawhi Leonard, the forward for Los Angeles Clippers, has received clearance to actively participate in the forthcoming training camp scheduled in Las Vegas next week. This development signifies a crucial and perhaps conclusive stage in his recuperation from the ACL injury sustained in 2021.
Nonetheless, the Los Angeles Clippers are opting not to rush their star player’s return just yet.
Asserting a cautious “step-by-step” strategy, the Clippers will gradually reintegrate Leonard during the commencement of the camp.
Expressing confidence in Leonard’s condition, Clippers’ president Lawrence Frank mentioned, “He is in high spirits. His intention is to engage in all activities. As an organization, we will exercise prudence. Hence, we shall adopt a gradual progression.”
Throughout the previous season, Leonard was absent from the Clippers’ lineup following his ACL tear during the playoffs’ second round in 2021.
During that season, the 31-year-old athlete achieved an average of 24.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per match, marking his second year with the Los Angeles team.
The Clippers will launch their upcoming season on Oct. 20 versus the Los Angeles Lakers, with two preseason matches scheduled on Sept. 30 and Oct. 3 in Seattle, the participation of Leonard in these fixtures remains uncertain.
According to Frank, the team is refraining from making any premature decisions.
Frank emphasized, “In cases of severe injuries, prognostication is unreliable. While he desires full involvement, we will assess his condition daily. Our medical unit is exceptional, and we are adopting a long-term perspective.”
He added, “We will not offer specific forecasts of his activities, letting his physical condition guide our judgement. This may vary day by day. Feedback from Kawhi and the medical experts will shape our decisions. It is early for definitive statements. We possess sufficient time.”
Kawhi Leonard aims to leverage the recent additions to the team to surmount the challenges in the Western Conference and elevate the Clippers to new heights.
