Lakers guard Austin Reaves has been standing out in the exhibition matches for Team USA leading to the FIBA Basketball World Cup, set to take place in Japan, Philippines, and Indonesia.
Filipino basketball enthusiasts are recognized for their enthusiasm and fondness for the sport, including the NBA.
When inquired about his views on Filipino basketball supporters, Reaves remarked, “I’ve heard they’re ardent Laker supporters, which I appreciate. However, on the whole, they are massive basketball aficionados.”
The Philippine national basketball squad will feature emerging talent Kai Sotto in their lineup after he was given the green light to compete post lower back issues during the NBA Summer League. Utah athlete Jordan Clarkson has also made it to the provisional squad for the Philippines.
Throughout Team USA’s preparations, Reaves has left a notable impression on head coach Steve Kerr. Kerr commended Reaves, stating, “He adapts well in any role assigned; that’s the brilliance of Austin. He’s a unifier and an exceptional basketball performer. He’s sturdy, shoots accurately, and distributes proficiently. He’s perpetually composed on the court, and he elevates any unit he’s involved in.”
Reaves, aged 25, respects Kerr’s advanced basketball intellect and his championship mindset.
In the recent friendly match against Spain, Reaves provided 11 points, one rebound, and two assists.
