While he did lead a large portion of the event, he did have to hold off eventual second-place finisher Alex Bowman on a nerve-jangling final restart with around 30 laps to go. Having finally cleared Bowman, Harvick was able to drive away comfortably and pick up his 50th Cup Series victory. As such, the former Cup champion is now 14th on the all-time list having passed team owner Tony Stewart with the ‘W.’
William Byron, who would bow out due to a crash, and Brad Keselowski took home the stage wins in the race. Byron was joined by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson as those with less than ideal finishes, as Johnson crashed while leading at the end of the first stage. Kurt Busch, Chase Elliott, and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five finishers. NASCAR will be back at Darlington on Tuesday for the Xfinity Series and then again on Wednesday with another Cup race, keeping them firmly in the spotlight.
