The exclusion of Trae Young from the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup has caught the attention of Hawks player Patrick Beverley, who is voicing his dissatisfaction.
It is evident that Young, a previous member of the team, expressed his desire to represent the USA but was not called up this time around.
Beverley finds it unjust that Young was not selected and drew parallels between Young and the renowned long-range shooter, Steph Curry.
In a recent episode of The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone, Beverley quipped, “Shut your eyes, spin around twice. Whoever you land on, that’s your pick.”
Essentially, Beverley is implying that he would opt for Young over any of the current players on the USA squad.
Beverley further emphasized, “He has clinched several games and delivered numerous clutch shots. He is changing the game. Whatever legacy Steph Curry is leaving, Young seems to be picking it up and excelling. He guided his team to the Eastern Conference Finals and has thrived in challenging situations. He deserves recognition.”
“This is not meant to diminish anyone else or critique the selection process of Team USA. Clearly, there are certain criteria in place and everyone aspires to wear the national jersey. While arguments can be made for De’Aaron Fox or others, it is essential not to overlook standout performers. The strength of the collective outweighs individual brilliance.”
Let’s now reflect on the comparison to Steph Curry.
