The Philadelphia 76ers declared today that Jameer Nelson has been advanced to the position of Chief Manager for the Delaware Blue Coats, the NBA G League affiliate of the team.

Before assuming this role, Nelson worked as the Blue Coats’ Deputy Chief Manager and 76ers Scout starting from November 2020. During this period, the team achieved sequential showings in the G League Finals, clinched the 2021 Winter Showcase Cup Title, and concluded with the 2022-23 NBA G League Championship.

Daryl Morey, the Head of Basketball Operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, mentioned, “Jameer has demonstrated the same level of tenacity in his front office and scouting duties as he did during his playing career. He is an exceptional talent assessor, earning respect from players, agents, coaches, and executives. These characteristics make him well-matched for success in his new role as the Chief Manager of the Blue Coats.”

Nelson takes on the position previously filled by Prosper Karangwa, who guided the Blue Coats to their inaugural G League title last year. Morey expressed appreciation to Karangwa for his significant contributions to the program and highlighted his crucial ongoing role within the 76ers front office.

With a 14-year career in the NBA, Nelson attained an All-Star status in 2009 with the Orlando Magic. He was chosen as the 20th overall selection by the Denver Nuggets in the 2004 NBA Draft, and during his career played for Orlando, Dallas, Boston, Denver, New Orleans, and Detroit. At the college level, the Chester, Pennsylvania native excelled at St. Joseph’s University, leading the Hawks to the Elite Eight in 2004 and garnering accolades such as National Player of the Year, first-team All-American, and Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.

Moreover, the Blue Coats disclosed the coaching staff for the 2023-24 season, with newcomer Ryan Ayers joining the team under the guidance of first-year head coach Mike Longabardi. Ayers will be collaborating with returning assistant coaches JP Clark and God Shammgod Jr.
