Jonathan Isaac, forward for the Orlando Magic, will not participate in the remainder of the 2021-22 NBA season as confirmed by Jeff Weltman, President of Basketball Operations for the Magic.

“It is of utmost importance to us to prioritize the well-being of our players,” Weltman stated, as reported on NBA.com.

“We must bear in mind that Jonathan has been absent for almost two years. Although his journey to strengthen and condition his body is ongoing, we believe it is wise to make the decision that he will not be able to compete this season. We acknowledge that this may be disappointing for our supporters, but Jonathan has shown tremendous dedication and is eager for a return to the game. Thus, it is crucial for us to approach his recovery with a long-term perspective in mind. Realistically, the time available to prepare him for game time this season has now elapsed.”

Isaac sustained a knee injury on January 1, 2020, made a comeback during the Orlando bubble period, and later suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

“The situation is disheartening,” expressed Isaac.

“I have dedicated significant effort, as has everyone else involved, towards progressing closer to a return, but we have reached a point of limitation given our current circumstances. I am looking ahead to the upcoming summer.”

A few years earlier, Isaac appeared to be a key pillar of the franchise and a consistent candidate for Defensive Player of the Year accolades.

At just 24 years old, Isaac has maintained averages of 9.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 25.8 minutes per game over his career.
