In an announcement today, Mitch Kupchak, the Head of Basketball Management & General Manager for the Charlotte Hornets, unveiled the latest advancements in the team’s basketball management unit: Buzz Peterson elevated to Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations & Associate General Manager, Larry Jordan to Head of Player Personnel, and David Duquette to Associate General Manager.

“The elevations of Buzz, Larry, and David are highly merited as each of them possesses a diverse range of skills, experience, and deep basketball insight,” stated Kupchak. “They have all played a crucial role in our team’s development efforts since my arrival in Charlotte. I look forward to continuing our collaboration as we enhance our squad around our promising group of players and strive for progress in our team’s evolution.”

Peterson, who is now in his 10th season with the Hornets, previously held the role of Assistant General Manager for the past four seasons. He has been closely involved in all facets of the team’s basketball management, including scouting at professional and collegiate levels, draft planning, player acquisitions, overseeing G League operations, and managing the salary cap. In addition to his current position, Peterson has also served as a Senior Advisor of Basketball Operations, Player Personnel Director, and scout. Before his NBA tenure, he held head coaching positions at various colleges such as the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Coastal Carolina University, the University of Tennessee, the University of Tulsa, and Appalachian State University (two times), amassing a coaching record of 267-227.

Now in his 10th season with the team, Jordan previously spent seven seasons as the Director of Player Personnel. His duties encompass scouting players at college, G League, and NBA levels to assess and evaluate talent, as well as delivering findings and assessments to aid in roster building and enhancement for both the Hornets and their G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm. Additionally, he supervises the team’s scouting department. Prior to this, Jordan spent two years as the Director of Special Projects within the organization, collaborating closely with various departments.

Duquette, marking his 11th season with the Hornets, previously held the position of Director of Basketball Strategy/Team Counsel for the preceding three seasons. Among the various basketball management matters he oversees, Duquette provides guidance on the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, salary cap management, and player agreements. During his stint in Charlotte, Duquette has also held roles as Director of Basketball Affairs and Assistant in Basketball Operations. Prior to joining Charlotte, Duquette commenced his NBA journey as an intern and later an Assistant in Basketball Operations with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
