During the preseason clash between OKC and the Spurs, the face-off between newcomers Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren was filled with drama.
Despite it being a preseason encounter, the atmosphere was intense, and the Thunder narrowly clinched a 121-122 win.
The towering young athletes, Chet and Wemby, went head-to-head on the court.
In the early moments of the initial quarter, Wembanyama aggressively pushed past Holmgren, netting a basket and earning a foul. Interestingly, he utilized his noggin to shove Holmgren off the track.
Following the action, Wembanyama showcased his strength to Holmgren, who found himself lying on the court.
Holmgren stumbled upon the footage on social media post-game and reacted in a comical manner. He posted on Twitter, “The forehead hit is an unbeatable maneuver fosho 😂😂🤝” along with a video snippet.
Wembanyama displayed an impressive performance, concluding the match with 20 points, five rebounds, shooting at a 61.5 percent accuracy from the court, and a 40 percent rate from beyond the arc as a center.
Meanwhile, Holmgren registered 21 points, snagged nine rebounds, managed a 70 percent shooting accuracy from the court, and a perfect 100 percent from the three-point line within a mere 16 minutes of gameplay.
Holmgren, a 21-year-old, was drafted last season but was sidelined due to a foot injury sustained at a CrawsOver Pro-Am event.
Reflecting on the encounter, Wembanyama shared, “Personally, it went well, I felt energized. He got the better of us in the first half. Even though it’s just preseason, the upcoming games against OKC will surely be intriguing.”
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich also expressed interest in the showdown, just like the rest of the NBA community.
