The Charlotte Hornets shooting guard James Bouknight was apprehended for operating a vehicle while intoxicated during the early hours of Sunday by law enforcement officials from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, as per an official statement.

The 22-year-old was discovered unconscious in his car on a parking structure in uptown Charlotte.

Bouknight’s bail was established at $2,500.

Authorities seized a . 40 caliber Glock 23, according to TMZ, although it remains unclear if Bouknight faces charges related to possessing a firearm.
Head coach Steve Clifford of Charlotte stated following the team’s practice, “We are presently in the process of collecting details. I am unable to provide any comments until we have concrete information about the situation.
The Charlotte Hornets released a public statement on Monday.

“We have been made aware of the incident involving James Bouknight and are actively gathering further data. At this time, we will abstain from giving any additional statements.”

Bouknight has a history of previous offenses, which include reckless driving to endanger on October 10, reckless driving with wanton disregard on November 11, 2021, and once again on February 23, 2022, per WBTV 3 Charlotte.

The second-year athlete posted averages of 4.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and .8 assists during his debut season in the league last season.

The Hornets will commence their season on Wednesday opposing the San Antonio Spurs, already without their star guard LaMelo Ball.

Ball sustained a Grade 2 ankle sprain during a preseason matchup against the Washington Wizards.

Miles Bridges remains absent as well, with his initial court session for allegations of domestic violence postponed until November 3.

Bridges, who topped the Hornets in scoring last season, is a free agent under restriction following the expiration of his contract last July subsequent to his detention.

The Hornets possess the right to negotiate and match any contract offers, but have refrained from entering into discussions given the recent legal issues.
