Zion Williamson graced the court for the first time since May 4, 2021, securing 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist in a 129 to 125 triumph over the Chicago Bulls.
“It was fantastic. It marked my premiere NBA appearance after a substantial duration. I’m thrilled primarily by engaging in the sport I adore and sharing the court with my squad,” expressed Williamson in the aftermath of the victory.
The 22-year-old stood out as one of five Pelicans achieving double-digit scoring.
“Since the previous encounter, the team structure has evolved, and I’m still acquainting myself with some of these individuals. Today, we harmonized. Should this harmony persist through the subsequent preseason fixtures, we are poised for success,” remarked Williamson.
The synchronization amongst the youthful team was prominently evident.
“It resembles the camaraderie experienced during collegiate endeavors, where a sense of unity prevails. With this collective, the motivations align toward communal triumph. Each achievement is celebrated collectively, underscoring the uniqueness of our synergy,” Williamson elucidated.
This marks Williamson’s third season within the league, maintaining an average of 25.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists throughout his career.
Having undertaken the reins of the team in the previous season, Coach Willie Green seized his maiden opportunity to devise strategies for Williamson.
The 41-year-old previously served as an assistant with the Suns for two seasons and contributed as a part of the Golden State Warriors’ coaching staff during their consecutive championship triumphs in 2017 and 2018.
“His performance was commendable, with an ongoing trajectory towards enhancement,” Green attested. “That embodies Zion – a diligent practitioner driven by a competitive spirit. Despite appearing inconspicuous, his contributions were substantial, amassing 13 points and four rebounds within a span of 15 minutes. Such proficient work ethic resonates on the court.”
The upcoming challenge for the Pels entails a showdown on Friday night against the Detroit Pistons.
