The deal signed by the Houston Rockets entails the addition of rookie guard Trevor Hudgins, who joined the team as a free agent just yesterday.
Hudgins, standing at 6-0 and weighing 180 pounds, was eligible for the 2022 NBA Draft post his final season as a redshirt player at Northwest Missouri State, a Division II institution. His impressive track record includes leading the Bearcats to three Division II championships and an outstanding 131-8 overall record, including an impeccable 38-0 mark during his debut in the 2018-19 season.
Throughout his career, Hudgins maintained averages of 20.4 points, 5.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals. His shooting accuracy reached 51.7% from the field, 46.5% from downtown, and 87.8% from the charity stripe. Notably, he received the NABC Division II Player of the Year accolade consecutively in his junior and senior seasons, marking him as the fourth player in Division II history to achieve this feat.
During an exhibition game against the fourth-ranked Duke team in 2019, despite a six-point loss, Hudgins showcased an exceptional performance by scoring a game-high 27 points, sinking seven 3-point shots. His proficiency in long-range shooting is evident by his 3.6 average 3FGM over his final three seasons. It’s worth mentioning that several former Rockets, such as Mario Elie, Caldwell Jones, Major Jones, Moochie Norris, and Purvis Short, also hailed from Division II colleges.
