The Portland Trail Blazers have secured the services of forward John Butler Jr. through a two-way deal.
Standing at 7-1, Butler recently participated in four summer league matchups for the New Orleans Pelicans in 2022, where he maintained an average of 8.5 points (75.0% FG, 66.7 3-PT%, 57.1 FT%), 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 16.7 minutes per game. One of his standout performances was against Oklahoma City during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas on July 17, where Butler netted 25 points with a perfect shooting record of 9-for-9 from the field and 6-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Coming out of Florida State without being drafted, Butler produced statistical averages of 5.9 points (41.6% FG, 39.3% 3-PT), 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 31 games (24 starts) for the Seminoles in the 2021-22 season. Hailing from Greenville, SC, he made history as the first freshman at Florida State to lead the team in both 3-point field goals made (33) and 3-point field goal percentage (.393) in a single season.
