The Spurs’ newly acquired player, De’Aaron Fox, will see his season come to a close following the team’s announcement concerning his upcoming surgery.
This development comes after what was arguably his finest outing with the Spurs, during which he scored 32 points, provided 11 assists, secured 9 rebounds, and recorded a steal in a 126-116 win against the Mavericks in San Antonio on Wednesday evening.
This is a considerable blow for San Antonio, especially since they are already missing their star player Victor Wembanyama, who is out due to blood clots, along with head coach Gregg Popovich for the rest of the season.
According to Shams, “San Antonio Spurs star De’Aaron Fox will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie, the team said.”
Fox incurred the tendon injury during training camp in October while still with the Sacramento Kings and continued to play despite the ailment throughout the season.
Shams also noted that the timing of the surgery is aimed at accelerating the healing process and improving team chemistry as they head into the offseason.
He added, “The team said it expects him to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of next season.”
The surgery is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The guard was traded to the Spurs from the Kings at the NBA trade deadline, ultimately appearing in 17 games for San Antonio, where he averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 1.5 steals.
Across 62 games this season with both the Spurs and Kings, he averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds.
