Anthony Davis has openly criticized both the Lakers and Mavericks for their handling of the trade discussions involving him and Luka Doncic.
After the Mavericks’ initial discussions with the Lakers, Davis shared his immediate reaction to the situation, revealing that he contacted LeBron James through FaceTime.
“When it happened, I honestly didn’t know s—,” Davis remarked. “He’s been my running mate for six years … so the first thing I wanted to do was call him. … I understand there will be a lot of political maneuvers in the front office when they talk to me.”
He also voiced doubts about the claim that no one had advance knowledge of the trade.
“The front office has to do what it needs to do, and obviously, they’ll pursue what’s best for the organization. So, I can’t say I ever received the complete truth about any of it. I can’t discern what’s real or fabricated from the higher-ups. My instinct was to reach out to my counterpart, someone I’ve been allied with, to gauge his thoughts and that’s all it was. We had a conversation, and that was it.
“Everyone’s claiming no one knew about this and all that kind of stuff. I just can’t buy it. But, hey man, I’m beyond that. I’m focused on moving forward with Dallas and striving to win a championship alongside these guys. First and foremost, I want to get back on the court and prepare to compete. All the emotions, that s— was just a shock that night.”
It appears that Davis harbors some frustration towards the Lakers regarding the trade.
