Jimmy Butler’s history in Miami is now haunting him.
The forward for the Golden State Warriors is currently involved in a lawsuit concerning unpaid rent and property damage related to a luxury home he leased in Miami Beach from 2022 to 2024.
This legal action, initiated by Five Star Marketing and Promotions, Inc., was filed in Florida’s 11th Circuit Court and claims that Butler owes $260,000 in rent and has caused damages amounting to over $127,000.
Court documents, first reported by WPLG 10, indicate that Butler resided in a modern residence measuring 5,398 square feet, built in 2016. The property features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and includes a swimming pool.
Valued at approximately $10 million, this home is located along a canal. The lawsuit alleges that Butler failed to carry out essential maintenance responsibilities, particularly regarding the air conditioning system and the pool.
Neglecting these maintenance duties reportedly resulted in considerable mold growth, necessitating the replacement of ceilings and flooring. Other damages mentioned in the lawsuit include damaged drywall, ruined flooring, and issues with the HVAC system, all of which contribute to the overall repair costs.
Additionally, the lawsuit claims that Butler changed the locks on the property without providing a key to the landlord, preventing maintenance workers from accessing the home for necessary repairs. The homeowner argues that this not only delayed crucial maintenance but also exacerbated existing issues, leading to more severe damage.
The plaintiff is seeking $257,282 in damages and intends to keep Butler’s $130,000 security deposit as part of the unpaid debts.
Since Butler’s arrival, he has helped the Warriors achieve a 7-2 record; however, he has yet to comment publicly on the allegations.
