Veteran sports columnist Jason Whitlock has taken aim at LeBron James following the latter’s comments about the future direction of the NBA.
“The LeBron James pity party must come to an end,” Whitlock expressed on X. “He opted into the Opinion Olympics, launching a barbershop talk show, only to now lament about the conversations occurring within barbershops regarding sports. Enough is enough. He decided to insert his uninformed opinions into the political discussion…he has become a polarizing figure…he has made the NBA a battleground…The athletes who support him need to develop thicker skin and recognize their responsibility. They cannot shy away from the repercussions of the fire they have started.”
This criticism seems to stem from LeBron’s comments made after the Timberwolves-Lakers game, along with his following remarks on X.
In response to inquiries regarding who might potentially become the next face of the league, especially after Anthony Edwards claimed during the All-Star game that he does not desire that role, LeBron replied.
“Channing Frye said it … ‘Why would you want to be the face of the league when so many of the people who cover our game and discuss our game on a daily basis criticize everyone?,’” LeBron stated.
LeBron further elaborated on the topic before Whitlock had reached his threshold.
“Exactly made my point but anyways. Happy this conversation has begun. It’s not about being the ‘face of the game’ and it’s not centered on one individual or one show; it’s about the culture of basketball, the most beautiful game in the world. Our game has never been better. We have remarkable young stars emerging from all corners of the globe and some seasoned players too 🤣🤣🤣 Steph Curry should be our main discussion today. Let’s talk about how exceptional OKC and the Cavs have been this season with their distinctly different styles, and analyze why and how they have succeeded. Naturally, if players don’t perform, we need to address that issue as well and explore it.”
