Just hours before his expected participation in Shaq’s OGs during the All-Star game alongside Steph Curry, LeBron James surprised fans with the news that he would not be taking part.
“You won’t see me on the court tonight, unfortunately,” LeBron mentioned during the pre-game press conference. “I won’t be in my jersey tonight. I’m still experiencing some discomfort in my ankle and foot, so I won’t be playing tonight, unfortunately.”
Following his statement, LeBron responded to media inquiries about whether his condition was due to maintenance or the result of ongoing wear and tear on his ankle.
“It’s a bit of both,” LeBron clarified. “I was hoping to feel much better this morning, but it hasn’t improved to where I had hoped. With around 30 games left and us aiming for a playoff spot in the fiercely competitive Western Conference, I felt it was crucial to take care of my body and acknowledge what’s ahead. I can’t say it’s only maintenance – it is maintenance, but at the same time, I need to prioritize my health concerning this injury that I’ve been managing for years. I aim to be ready for Wednesday; I need to make up for this missed game, so I will be returning to LA tonight. No time for a break. I’ll head back to LA tonight, continue my rehab tomorrow, and get prepared for practice on Tuesday, hoping to play against Charlotte on Wednesday and then Portland on Thursday. This is a vital stretch for us.”
In LeBron’s absence, Shaq’s team will include Kyrie Irving, James Harden, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Damian Lillard.
