Just when it seemed that this trade deadline could not get any more captivating, Kevin Durant’s name has surfaced in the discussions.
The latest information comes from Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated:
“The Warriors are indeed serious about reuniting with Kevin Durant, sources told SI,” he posted on X. “As efforts to secure Jimmy Butler have stalled, rival executives believe the Suns are seriously contemplating Durant trades ahead of the deadline.”
KD appears to be keeping himself informed on the current conversations as well, according to Jake Fischer, although he is skeptical that Durant will actually be moved.
“Phoenix, as of Monday’s business dealings, continues to indicate it doesn’t intend to part with Durant before the deadline, sources report, but the Suns are thought to be at least entertaining pitches from various teams for the 35-year-old scoring icon,” Fischer stated. “Durant, for his part, is said to be aware of all this.”
The Warriors seem eager to reignite a past connection, somewhat like a teenager reaching out to an ex.
The Athletic’s Anthony Slater confirmed their sense of urgency.
“[The Warriors] are surveying, they’re canvassing, and to a certain extent, yes, they are desperate,” Slater said on 9.57 The Game.
Beyond a sheer sense of urgency, Golden State may also be engaging in some wishful thinking, as reports suggest an ambitious idea is being discussed.
“Sources indicate that the most extravagant concept floating around among Golden State’s decision-makers is whether there is any realistic avenue for the Warriors to orchestrate the ideal scenario of bringing both LeBron James and Durant to The Bay,” Fischer remarked.
