The Toronto Raptors have officially signed guard AJ Lawson to a two-way contract.
Lawson, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 185 pounds, had a standout season with the Long Island Nets, the G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets. In 11 games, all of which he started, he averaged 24.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 35.1 minutes per game. His shooting statistics are notable, featuring a field goal percentage of .440 (85-193) and an impressive free throw percentage of .829 (34-41). Lawson recorded over 20 points in eight games and surpassed 30 points on two occasions, with a career-high of 37 points against Raptors 905 on November 22.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Lawson holds career averages of 3.4 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 7.4 minutes over 57 games played with the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves in the last two seasons. During this period, he averaged 21.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 34.1 minutes in seven games with the Texas Legends in the 2023-24 G League season, as well as 20.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 31.9 minutes in 22 games split between the Legends, Iowa Wolves, and College Park Skyhawks during the 2022-23 season.
Before embarking on his NBA career, Lawson spent three years (2018-21) attending the University of South Carolina, where he averaged 14.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists across 81 games. In his junior year, he played in 21 games and posted averages of 16.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 31.4 minutes per game, which earned him a place on the Second Team All-SEC.
