On Sunday, Chris Paul reached a significant career milestone by overtaking Jason Kidd for second place on the NBA’s all-time assists leaderboard, and he was notably emotional after the game.
The Spurs honored Paul’s achievement by presenting him with the game ball, along with a framed collage that showcased all the teams he has played for and the players he has assisted during his illustrious career.
“I can’t say nothing but thank you,” Paul said, struggling to hold back tears. “I know I can be tough to deal with sometimes. I swear man, I’m immensely grateful. Being away from my family – you all became my family. I know I’m quite a handful on the court, but my love for the game is enormous. I hope each of you gets the chance to play as long as I have. Thank you all so much.”

The 39-year-old expressed deep gratitude for the support he’s received from San Antonio since joining the team in the off-season.
“Grateful,” Paul remarked. “I’ve faced the Spurs in several playoff series. When we play on the road, I hear a lot of boos for switching teams and playing in the playoffs. San Antonio has been absolutely fantastic. The fans, the staff, the team – you hear all these stories about the Spurs being first-class, and to actually experience and witness it is just pure gratitude.”
Spurs star Victor Wembanyama lauded his veteran teammate, celebrating Paul’s remarkable accomplishment.
