Yesterday, the Memphis Grizzlies promoted guard Yuki Kawamura’s contract to a two-way deal.
Kawamura (5-8, 159) appeared as a reserve in all five of the Grizzlies’ preseason matches, averaging 3.4 points and 4.2 assists in 15.1 minutes per game following his signing with Memphis on September 6.
After going undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft, Kawamura spent the past five seasons (2019-24) in the Japanese B.League, where he was honored with the 2022-23 Most Valuable Player award while representing the Yokohama B-Corsairs. The 23-year-old played all 56 games for Yokohama last season, averaging 20.9 points and 8.0 assists over 30.6 minutes per game, earning a place on the B.League’s Best Five team for the second year in a row.
Kawamura has also represented Japan at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and is gearing up for the 2024 Paris Olympics. During the World Cup, he tallied a total of 29 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, playing a key role in Japan’s overtime match against France on July 30.
