After notching his third consecutive triple-double, LeBron James emphasized the need for the NBA community to appreciate his time on the basketball court as he nears 40 years of age.
“I’m not gonna play that much longer, to be completely honest,” James shared. “I don’t know how many years that is, whether it’s one year or two years, whatever the case may be. I mentioned the other night that I’m not playing until the wheels fall off.”
He went on to explain that he is focusing on being present and relishing the experiences that each game offers.
“I’m just living in the moment,” James expressed. “It feels good to be able to go out and play the game that I love at a high level still.”
In light of LeBron’s remarks, Shams Charania weighed in on the possibility of the NBA superstar retiring soon.
“My sense is next season could potentially be his last season in the NBA,” Charania mentioned on First Take. “Maybe Bryce James keeps him around an extra year or two. But I do think next season, the All-Star game in Los Angeles, there might be some good momentum there for that.”
Recently, LeBron’s former teammate with the Cavaliers, Tristan Thompson, asserted with confidence that “all three of them are going to be on the same team,” referencing LeBron and his sons, Bronny and Bryce.
Responding to Thompson’s comments, LeBron did not rule out the possibility of playing alongside both of his sons.
“Bryce is a senior,” he noted. “I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll see. That would be pretty cool. It’s all about my mind and then seeing how my body reacts over these next couple of years.”
