The NBA is currently considering a new format for the 2025 All-Star Game scheduled for February, as part of a continuous effort to revitalize an event that has recently seen a decline in fan engagement.

While interest in the All-Star game seems to have diminished, the league is actively pursuing fresh ideas to boost viewer involvement.

“We’re looking at different formats for this year’s All-Star Game. So it’s not a traditional game format,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver shared on Saturday during an event held in Mexico City.

What can attendees anticipate from this year’s festivities in San Francisco? While Silver has not revealed specific proposals yet, it is likely that Steph Curry will play a significant role in influencing the changes.

“We’ve had direct conversations with Steph Curry. It’s a home game for him. I know he’s very prideful and wants to ensure that the players put their best foot forward, so we’re looking at other formats,” Silver noted. “I think there’s no doubt that the players were disappointed as well in last year’s All-Star Game. We all want to enhance the competition and entertainment for our fans.”

Last year’s standout moment during All-Star Weekend was the 3-point shootout featuring Curry alongside WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu, and Silver has confirmed that a similar event will reappear in some form.

“Sabrina Ionescu is from the Bay Area. Of course, as I mentioned, Steph is going to be there, and I can’t recall whether they’ve officially committed or not, but they both are excited about participating again. They are looking forward to it,” Silver remarked. “I think as soon as they walked off the court after the competition last year, they suggested that we need more than one round to make it even fairer, so we’re going to be doing more things.”
