TMZ has recently published video footage of former NBA player Rajon Rondo’s arrest earlier this year.
The clip shows a police officer in Jackson County, Indiana, stopping Rondo’s vehicle, citing that the reason for the stop was the lack of a rear license plate.
The officers appeared to identify Rondo, with one mentioning to another, “He’s a former basketball player. He played for a bunch of NBA teams.… Not that I care, I’m just telling you.”
At the time of the incident, Rondo was accompanied by his 12-year-old son, Pierre, and was reportedly driving at speeds reaching 100 mph.
Following the stop, Rondo was taken into custody after authorities found a firearm, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana in the vehicle.
The presence of the firearm raised a legal red flag for Rondo, as he was barred from possessing one due to an incident in 2022, wherein he made threats against his son’s mother.
In connection with the event from January, Rondo negotiated a plea deal in September, which led to the dropping of two charges. Instead of serving 180 days in jail, he will be required to complete probation.
After his arrest, Rondo was seen as a guest during the Bucks’ recent training camp.
Head coach Doc Rivers informed ESPN that the former Lakers player “will remain with the team in an unspecified capacity this season.”
“You’ll see him a lot,” Rivers added. “That’s all I’ll say.”
Rondo officially declared his retirement from a 16-season NBA career in April and conveyed to ESPN earlier this month that he “absolutely” aims to become a coach in the league in the future.
“There’s a lot of factors that go into coaching,” Rondo remarked. “You just can’t say, I’m going to be a coach, and then everything works out and that’s how it happens. Certain personalities have to mesh, [and there’s] a lot of sacrifice. There are aspects that I’m learning. The morning meetings, the amount of time spent watching film, it’s a lot.”
