An NBA insider has raised concerns regarding Anthony Davis’s long-term future with the Los Angeles Lakers.
In a recent conversation, Jovan Buha from The Athletic was asked to forecast which players from the current Lakers roster might still be part of the team in five years, and he did not include Davis among them.
“By 2029, AD will be turning 37 during the season,” Buha stated in a Lakers mailbag segment. “I have doubts about whether AD will still be active at that point. While I believe he has the talent to remain effective, his injury history makes the prospect of a 36 or 37-year-old Anthony Davis somewhat troubling. I lean towards thinking he won’t be with the Lakers by that time, potentially taking on a secondary role alongside emerging superstars.”
Despite his track record of injuries, Davis played in 76 games for the Lakers during the 2023-24 regular season, marking a personal best and surpassing the 75 games he participated in with New Orleans from 2015-17.
As the season draws near, he is also considered a leading candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
According to ESPN, Davis is ranked as the fourth-most likely player to win the DPOY title, behind Victor Wembanyama, four-time DPOY Rudy Gobert, and Bam Adebayo.
