This summer, the Warriors made some adjustments, but the franchise fell short of securing a superstar to pair with Steph Curry.
However, this setback does not stem from a lack of ambition.
Golden State appears far from abandoning their pursuit of a marquee player, as Warriors reporter Anthony Slater believes the team is preparing for a noteworthy move in the 2024-25 season.
“They’ll make a significant trade: In a slightly upgraded form, the Warriors have the same problem as a season ago,” Slater stated. “They have a wealth of rotation-level NBA talent, yet they still lack adequate elite scoring or playmaking to complement Stephen Curry. I expect they’ll achieve enough victories to stay in the playoff mix, which may frustrate some capable players relegated to the bench, leading to a consolidation trade in January or February that enhances the roster and its balance.
“They possess the first-round picks, flexible contracts, and young talents needed to execute a deal. The team has shown a readiness to pursue aggressive moves. Curry might apply some subtle pressure if a viable upgrade is available. Another element to watch is Jonathan Kuminga’s contract discussions. If he signs an extension in October, league rules will make him virtually untouchable until next summer. However, if he chooses not to (which I currently predict), he will remain a valuable asset for trading.”
Curry continues to demonstrate he has a lot left in the tank, as shown by his stellar performances during the Paris Games this summer.
It would be regrettable if the Warriors did not at least strive to build a championship-caliber team around him.
