The Pistons have parted ways with second-year forward Tosan Evbuomwan, as reported by Tim Bontemps of ESPN (Twitter link).
Evbuomwan was signed to a two-way contract, and his exit now leaves Detroit with two available two-way roster spots. Presently, Daniss Jenkins is the only two-way player remaining on the squad.
After going undrafted from Princeton in 2023, Evbuomwan primarily competed with the Motor City Cruise, Detroit’s G League affiliate, during his inaugural season. He also had 10-day contracts with both the Grizzlies and Pistons throughout the season before landing a two-way deal with the Pistons in February, which was intended to last two seasons and kept him tied to Detroit until now.
At 6’8″, Evbuomwan posted averages of 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds across 21.6 minutes per game in 17 total NBA appearances (including eight starts) while playing for both Memphis and Detroit, with shooting percentages of .507/.375/.680. In his 34 games with the Cruise in the G League, he averaged 15.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, shooting .554/.361/.754 in 34.2 minutes per game.
This roster move suggests that the Pistons might be considering converting one or more of their Exhibit 10 camp invitees into two-way contracts. Potential candidates for this shift include Tolu Smith, Javante McCoy, Dereon Seabron, and Aaron Estrada. Notably, Lamar Stevens is also taking part in camp under an Exhibit 10 agreement but is ineligible for a two-way contract due to his four years of experience in the NBA.
Furthermore, the Pistons could explore external options to fill one or both of the vacant two-way slots.
