As Team USA prepares for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, significant changes are anticipated in its roster, especially with the absence of seasoned All-Stars.
Zion Williamson and Ja Morant are two athletes who could potentially fill this gap.
Despite facing various hurdles, including major injuries and off-court issues related to adult entertainment and firearms, both players have proven themselves as extraordinary talents when they are healthy and focused.
A source from USA Basketball has indicated that the pair is expected to be instrumental during the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
“We will still have a great chance to win gold, but it won’t be easy,” the source conveyed to The Athletic. “Ja and Zion need to be in the mix. Moving forward, hopefully, they can get on track and stay on track.”
Team USA recently clinched gold in a thrilling competition over the summer, featuring the standout talents of Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and LeBron James collaborating for the first time.
This was an exhilarating moment for NBA enthusiasts, even though the 12-man roster included limited emerging talent from the league.
In contrast, the upcoming Olympics is expected to present a different scenario.
“If they (Team USA) would have called, you know, I would definitely have picked up, but I guess it wasn’t my time, which is OK,” Williamson shared. “They went out there and brought gold home, which was great for the country. Hopefully in 2028, I’ll be ready.”
Both Zion and Ja have demonstrated positive signs in their initial preseason games with the Pelicans and Grizzlies, respectively.
