Lakers coach JJ Redick has hinted at the potential for Bronny and LeBron James to play alongside each other this season, which would be a pivotal moment for both the team and the NBA.
While Redick did not specify a timeline or exact date for when the father-son duo might step onto the court together, his remarks indicate that this monumental event could happen early in the season.
“In terms of that moment, yeah, we’ve talked about it and we’ve thought about it,” Redick said during an appearance on The Lowe Post on Tuesday. “We’ll get it done. I don’t want to commit to anything right now, but that is going to happen and is going to happen sooner rather than later.”
In a joint press conference with Rob Pelinka on Wednesday, Redick expanded on these conversations, emphasizing that both LeBron and Bronny will be included in the planning for this occasion, whenever it occurs.
“We obviously have talked about it as a staff and we’ve gotten into some specifics of what that might look like,” Redick noted during the press conference with Pelinka. “But we haven’t committed to anything. And obviously, there’s a discussion to be had once we’re all together with Bronny and LeBron, too. They should be a part of that discussion as well.”
It seems likely that Bronny will spend some time with the Lakers’ G-League team, as Redick commended the affiliate’s role in the development of players.
“I think Bronny is a young guy,” Redick commented in his interview on Lowe. “I am very high on him as a basketball player and I said this at his press conference—I said he is kind of like our first player that we get to mold and help develop. So we’re going to look at the G-League as a tool in our player development system.”
