Kyrie Irving underwent surgical intervention on his hand during the summer to address an injury sustained while working out, and a source has disclosed information regarding his present state.
The Mavericks convened in Los Angeles last week for player-coordinated training sessions; however, Irving was unable to take part.
He had the procedure in July to mend a broken left hand (which is his non-dominant hand), and the team did not provide a timeline for his recovery following the surgery.
Nevertheless, veteran NBA insider Marc Stein suggests that he should be ready for participation by the start of training camp.
“At this moment, he has yet to be authorized for full 5-on-5 basketball, but what I’ve been informed is that he is still on track to be cleared in time for training camp, so I don’t think there are any issues,” Stein remarked on the DLLS Mavs podcast.
Stein further indicated in the same podcast episode that the activities the team organized off the court surpassed the effectiveness of their on-court practices.
This occurred despite Luka Doncic’s absence.
“The only individuals who were missing were those expected to be present due to their international commitments,” Stein elaborated. “Luka is currently in Slovenia for the (Goran) Dragic farewell event.”
Dallas has acquired yet another experienced player over the summer – Klay Thompson.
Undoubtedly, he will integrate seamlessly into the starting lineup and offer additional offensive support for Doncic.
Although Irving posted averages of 25.6 points, five rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game with a shooting rate of 41.1 percent from beyond the arc, his performance in the Finals declined.
Thus, having someone like Thompson available will undoubtedly be a significant benefit to the team, considering Luka simply exhausted his energy in the Finals.
