NFL legend Tom Brady has come forward to stand by Jayson Tatum, following his activities at the Paris Olympic Games.
Tatum logged two DNP (Did Not Participate) games (both against Serbia) due to head coach Steve Kerr’s decision to leave him out.
The Boston star recently admitted his struggle to discover his rhythm in the games he participated in.
“I realize I didn’t make a jump shot while with Team USA,” shared the Celtics standout with The Athletic. “I’m not entirely certain, it’s the law of averages. It’s a unique flow being part of Team USA; you can never exactly predict when you’ll get the ball. But that’s part of the journey. You accept that since I’ve experienced it before (during the Tokyo Games).”
Sportscenter highlighted the quote on their social media channels, and NFL icon Brady was among the numerous commenters.
He emphasized recognizing Tatum’s contributions and stimulating reflection among the skeptics.
“A true professional!,” Brady remarked. “A genuine champion! And a fantastic teammate! We should celebrate those who put team success above personal glory! There are countless people in every organization who may not always play a ‘starting’ role but play an essential part in the team’s triumphs. My admiration for Jayson Tatum has soared tremendously! 💯 This is the lesson we must teach our children!”
Although he was a pivotal element of Boston’s championship win, Tatum only played 11 minutes in the final gold medal match against France.
Kerr opted not to deploy Tatum against Serbia in the group rounds and again in the semi-finals, leaving Tatum subject to reactions from NBA fans and the broader basketball community during that time.
