The Los Angeles Lakers have officially named JJ Redick as their head coach. Redick now serves as the 29th head coach in the team’s history and the 25th during the Los Angeles era.

“The Los Angeles Lakers are ecstatic to introduce JJ Redick as the newly designated head coach,” stated Lakers’ Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka. He remarked, “After an exhaustive and thorough quest process, I am exceptionally proud to welcome JJ, along with his spouse Chelsea and their two sons, to the Lakers family. JJ is a fierce competitor with an outstanding basketball intellect and a deep understanding of the modern game that will energize players and enchant fans. His rigorous examination will promptly reveal new prospects for our squad while establishing a foundation for long-range player progression. He brings a robust dedication to creativity, pushing the limits of the game and continuing to lead in an ever-changing league. Alongside his basketball acumen, JJ possesses a heartfelt concern for individuals and compassionate characteristics that are essential for nurturing connections with contemporary players. This marks a thrilling juncture for Lakers basketball.”

Redick, aged 40, enjoyed a 15-season NBA career (2006-21) representing Dallas, New Orleans, Philadelphia, LA Clippers, Milwaukee, and Orlando. During those 15 seasons, the former guard was part of 14 teams that advanced to the NBA Playoffs. The esteemed marksman displayed prowess in his role, averaging 12.8 points in 940 regular-season contests. Redick boasted a career three-point shooting efficiency of 41.5%, and his 1,950 made three-pointers still place him 20th all-time in NBA history.

“It is truly gratifying for me to join the Los Angeles Lakers, a renowned and accomplished sports franchise globally,” shared Redick. He added, “This opportunity is about serving the players, team, and organization. I extend my deepest appreciation to Jeanie Buss, Rob Pelinka, and the entire Lakers management. I aim to focus on delivering championship-level basketball for Lakers supporters around the world, building on the exceptional past and legacy of the team. I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to surround myself with a competent, innovative team as we diligently strive to enhance individual player performance and maximize the team’s capabilities. My family and I are exceedingly excited about this new chapter in our lives and are eager to engage in the vibrant Los Angeles community.”
