Before deliberating on his future with the Warriors, Klay Thompson had a specific plea for his longtime teammate Steph Curry. The request was for Curry to refrain from using his significant influence within the organization and increasing tensions with management to ensure Thompson’s return, according to initial reports by The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.
However, Curry disregarded the plea and went ahead to engage in discussions with the team’s decision-makers. In a recent conversation with Golden State owner Joe Lacob and others, Curry shared details with The Athletic.
Expressing his thoughts, Curry conveyed to Amick, “Our intention is to bring Klay back. I won’t disclose the exact figures of the contract or other details. Based on our operational approach, there’s always room for discussion. If there are any changes, I simply request to be informed and have clarity on everyone’s position. I am not here to impose thoughts or actions, as we are all compensated for our respective roles.”
“However, I do hope that looking back, the way the organization handled the situation can be seen as a collaborative effort to address both Klay’s needs and the organization’s demands. Hopefully, a compromise can be reached, considering the emotional impact of this situation. (He’s) the first among us three to depart.”
Despite being the leader of the team, following Klay’s departure, Steph is fully aware of how quickly players’ circumstances can change. “I can confidently state my desire to remain a Warrior for life,” Curry shared with Yahoo Sports at the Team USA basketball camp ahead of the upcoming Paris Olympics. “That has always been my ambition, and I affirm that stance as I sit here now. However, as you rightly noted, life, especially life in the NBA, is an uncertain realm where situations evolve rapidly.”
