Upon securing the NBA championship, Jayson Tatum enters the Team USA camp with a sense of triumph and satisfaction.
Tatum feels a significant weight off his shoulders now that he has met the high expectations set for him.
Speaking to ESPN, Tatum said, “Undoubtedly, I have been at the center of many debates and discussions… ‘Can he lead a team? Is he one of the top five players?”
While there may still be room for debate in certain areas, Tatum emphasized his undeniable achievement: he is a champion. With this added to his resume, any ongoing conversations or differing opinions will have to recognize him as an NBA champion.
There was much speculation surrounding the Celtics forward and the impact of winning an NBA championship on his reputation.
Despite some ups and downs during the series against Dallas, Tatum did not receive the Finals MVP award.
That honor went to his teammate, Jaylen Brown. Nevertheless, as Tatum stressed, the championship title is unequivocally his.
While Tatum focuses on winning gold with Team USA, his Celtics coach back home is preparing to defend the team’s championship.
“Joe is already cooking up strategies for the next season,” Tatum shared. “And I was like, ‘Joe, hold up. We just won a championship. Let’s enjoy it. Relax.”
“I’m not worried about the tactics he’s planning right now. We had a laugh about it, considering his relentless determination — which we all have, but it’s like, we put in so much work for this. So, let’s bask in it.”
