Recently, Klay Thompson conducted his first press conference after joining Dallas during the free agency period, concluding a successful 13-year era with Golden State.
The accomplished player with four championship titles was asked about his emotions upon leaving the Warriors after dedicating his entire career to the team.
Reflecting on his viewpoint, Thompson shared on Tuesday, “Initially, there was a sense of discontent. However, as time passed, one engages in introspection and recognizes their past accomplishments; those championship victories are irreplaceable… There are scenarios where separations are necessary in the pursuit of what is just. I am not the first athlete in the NBA to face such transitions.”
After some tough discussions with the Warriors’ management, Klay was excited to start a new chapter with a different team and expressed his enthusiasm.
“Coming here signifies a true new start,” Thompson noted. “I feel valued once more, understanding my importance, and this idea motivates me to look forward to practicing and taking shots even after this speech. There were occasions last season when challenges emerged, and the joy was not as evident as before.
“It is rewarding to release that feeling, start fresh with an entirely new group of teammates, peers, in an unfamiliar urban center. It is genuinely captivating, and I am enthusiastically welcoming this opportunity.”
Highlighting his primary aim, the 34-year-old emphasized, “Scoring more points is not my focus,” Klay mentioned. “My main goal is victory, at this moment… I am prepared to make concessions for the team, as long as we show winning basketball; that is what truly matters.”
