Anthony Davis recounted the moment he was informed of the Lakers’ decision to draft Bronny James as the 55th pick in the recent NBA Draft.
In a conversation with Today, Davis revealed, “I reached out to him after his selection. I messaged LeBron because I haven’t got Bronny’s number yet. I phoned Bron, and he picked up, saying, ‘Hello, what’s going on?’ I responded, ‘I don’t want to talk to you, I’m more interested in conversing with my new teammate!’
Sharing his enthusiasm for this historic move, Davis expressed his anticipation of playing alongside LeBron and Bronny, creating a unique scenario of a father-son duo sharing the court in the NBA.
“The journey ahead is bound to be thrilling,” Davis commented. “Truly, this marks an exceptional chapter for the James family. It’s a delight to witness a father and son both playing in the league and on the same team… it’s a spectacle to behold.
“… And hopefully, we can achieve something remarkable together. Learning from no one other than LeBron is an invaluable opportunity. Undoubtedly, he has been absorbing knowledge from LeBron since day one. Now, actively participating in this process, mentoring Bronny to follow in his father’s footsteps, maybe even surpassing him, or who knows what lies ahead. It’s an incredible venture, and I feel honored to be part of it.”
On the weekend, Bronny debuted for the Lakers in the NBA Summer League game against the Sacramento Kings at the California Classic. Despite a 108-94 defeat, he tallied 4 points, shooting 2-for-9, along with 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal in 22 minutes of play.
