Only a mere 48 hours since assuming the position as the Lakers’ sideline overseer, JJ Redick has found himself engulfed in scandal.
Prior to launching into a 15-year professional basketball career, Redick excelled on the college courts at Duke.
Halleemah Nash, an author, speaker, and also an alumna of Duke, has accused Redick on platform X.
“The exclusive time I was ever addressed by a white man using the N-word to my face was during my time working with the basketball team at Duke University,” she asserted. “And he’s just been named the new coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world we live in.”
Redick along with his agents have strongly dismissed these allegations.
A spokesperson responded to TMZ Sports asking for Redick’s side of the story, stating, “This did not happen.”
Having never assumed a coaching role in the NBA, Redick retired his jersey in 2021.
He quickly shifted gears to join ESPN as an NBA commentator, eventually becoming the principal analyst for ABC’s 2024 NBA Finals broadcast.
“Embarking on this path has truly been like a dream,” declared Redick. “I undertake this mission with the utmost seriousness… The Lakers have a vast army of die-hard followers around the globe, yearning for triumph; my task is to form a team befitting of a championship. I have pledged to fulfill that promise.
“It appears as though this was my inevitable journey. Though my coaching résumé in the NBA is blank, I’d argue that my experience runs deep. It all began 22 years ago when I stepped onto the Duke campus.”
Moreover, Redick has expressed that his podcasting endeavors with LeBron James will be winding down as he takes on the formidable task of directing one of the most esteemed coaching roles in basketball.
