The Miami Heat have announced a series of roster moves today. These moves include signing center Brandon McCoy, forward Drew Peterson, forward Cole Swider, forward Justin Champagnie, guard Alondes Williams, and guard Caleb Daniels.
Following these signings, the Heat have decided to waive Brandon McCoy and have signed Jamal Cain to a Two-Way Contract instead.
Drew Peterson has recently played in four NBA2K24 Summer League games for the Heat in Las Vegas. He has shown impressive performance, averaging 10.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.50 steals. Peterson has also maintained an excellent shooting percentage, shooting 46.7 percent from the field, 47.1 percent from three-point range, and 80 percent from the foul line. In the previous season, he played for USC, where he was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team. Peterson led the team in rebounds, assists, starts, and minutes while also ranking second in points, scoring average, blocks, field goals made, three-point field goals made, and free throws made.
Cole Swider has split his time between the Los Angeles Lakers and their G League team, the South Bay Lakers, in the previous season. He played 27 regular season games, starting 19 of them, for the South Bay Lakers, where he had an average of 17.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 28.7 minutes per game. Swider has maintained an impressive shooting accuracy, with a field goal percentage of 50.6 percent, a three-point percentage of 43.6 percent, and a free throw percentage of 83.8 percent. He has also appeared in seven games for the Los Angeles Lakers, contributing nine points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Justin Champagnie has had a dynamic season, splitting his time between the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, and the Miami Heat’s G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. In 23 regular season games for the Skyforce, Champagnie has averaged 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 31.3 minutes per game. He has showcased his shooting skills, with a field goal percentage of 52 percent. Champagnie has also played in five NBA games, two with the Celtics and three with the Raptors.
Alondes Williams has had experience with the Brooklyn Nets and their G League team, the Long Island Nets, in the previous season. In 24 regular season games for Long Island, Williams has averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.21 steals in 27.6 minutes per game. He has demonstrated solid shooting ability, with a field goal percentage of 51.3 percent, a three-point percentage of 37.5 percent, and a free throw percentage of 71.9 percent. Williams has also appeared in one game for the Brooklyn Nets.
Caleb Daniels has played in four NBA2K24 Summer League games for the Heat in Las Vegas. He has averaged 4.8 points and 1.0 rebounds, with a field goal percentage of 41.2 percent and a three-point percentage of 40 percent. In the previous season, he played for Villanova, leading the team in assists, three-point field goals made, minutes, games played, and starts. Daniels was also honored with the BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award.
Jamal Cain, who was previously signed by the Heat on July 15, 2022, has split his time between the Heat and their G League team, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He played 15 regular season games for the Skyforce, all of them as a starter, and had an average of 22.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 33.5 minutes per game. Cain has maintained an impressive shooting accuracy, with a field goal percentage of 54.9 percent, a three-point percentage of 37.5 percent, and a free throw percentage of 81.8 percent. He also appeared in 15 games for the Heat last season, averaging 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 12.4 minutes of action.
