When asked directly about his inclination to stay with the New York basketball team, Evan Fournier took a moment to ponder his response before replying, as noted by Zach Braziller of The New York Post. The experienced player revealed that while his preference leans towards remaining in New York, this may not be the case should he continue to find himself on the sidelines.
“In an ideal situation, I would choose to stick around right here. I have a strong desire to represent this team,” Fournier expressed. “During the time of free agency, I had multiple options but I made a conscious decision to join the Knicks. I have a fondness for New York. The opportunity to work with (head coach Tom Thibodeau) appealed to me. Therefore, I am keen to stay, yet my ultimate goal is to participate actively.”
Further expounding on his stance, Fournier emphasized that he believes he is currently in peak physical condition and is not keen on spending his prime years confined to the bench.
“I am set to hit my peak performance. I am, as of now, in my prime,” he stated according to Braziller. “Above all, I yearn to be out there playing. Especially as a competitor. I haven’t lost my edge. Despite having taken on a different role last season, I managed to break a long-standing franchise record (for most three-pointers in a season). Thus, I am committed to adapting to any circumstance that comes my way.”
The veteran player has been sidelined for the upcoming game against Cleveland on Tuesday due to personal reasons, as announced by the Knicks (via Twitter). It was further revealed by Steve Popper of Newsday (Twitter link) that Fournier’s wife has given birth today.
