Russell Westbrook Set to Participate on Wednesday in Denver Following Recovery from Injury

After facing challenges in the initial 0-3 games of the Lakers season, point guard Russell Westbrook is anticipated to take the court for the team’s fourth match on Wednesday in Denver. Jovan Buha from The Athletic indicates that Westbrook is doubtful to feature against the Nuggets due to a hamstring issue that arose during the pre-season finale on October 14.

Despite the injury, Westbrook managed to play in the previous three games. However, if the injury persists, it would be wise for the Lakers to rest him for a game or two. This decision not only ensures his full recovery but also provides him with a break from the criticism he has encountered in the early stages of the 2022/23 season.

Below are some other health-related updates from the NBA:

  • Clippers standout Kawhi Leonard felt some stiffness in his right knee, which had been operated on, leading to his absence in the team’s recent defeat against Oklahoma City, reports Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. Youngmisuk mentions that Leonard will also miss the following game against the same opponent. Head coach Tyronn Lue clarified that it wasn’t considered a setback for Leonard. “We want to be cautious, ensure we’re making the right decisions for him, even though he desired to play,” stated Lue. We felt it wasn’t a smart move. He may be upset with us, but it isn’t wise at the moment.”
  • Wizards guard Delon Wright exited Tuesday’s game due to hamstring tightness, as per comments from head coach Wes Unseld Jr., noted in a tweet by Josh Robbins of The Athletic. Unseld wasn’t certain about the severity of the injury post-game or whether it would force Wright to miss additional matches.
  • Having suffered ACL and Achilles injuries in previous years, Warriors star Klay Thompson initiated this season after a healthy summer. However, he still requires gradual progression and has been under a minutes restriction in the early stages to enhance his fitness levels, as reported by Kendra Andrews of ESPN. “Being a perfectionist, I aspire to excel immediately,” reflected Thompson. “But I need to acknowledge that it’s a long season. I prefer to peak during the playoff period rather than peaking in early November or January.”
