Second-year Hornets athletes James Bouknight, Kai Jones, and JT Thor are eager to embrace increased roles with Charlotte this year, according to insights from Rod Boone at The Charlotte Observer. Boone emphasizes that this trio of substitutes must be ready when the team’s new (returning) coach Steve Clifford calls upon them.

“We’ve discussed the team’s potential,” mentioned Jones. “Our primary focus has always been diligence. We emphasize it regularly, putting in extra work, showing up whenever possible – early mornings, late nights – to reach your full potential as a player.”

Reflecting on his offseason improvements, Bouknight shared thoughts on the aspects of his game he has been honing.

“I’ve been focusing on making correct decisions on the weak side, distributing the ball, utilizing my size, excelling on defense,” he remarked. “I genuinely believe I can contribute in all facets of the game.”

Here are more details from Charlotte:

  • The status of current Hornets forward Miles Bridges, the team’s leading scorer in 2021/22, remains uncertain. The preliminary trial in Los Angeles for his three allegations of domestic violence felonies has been rescheduled for the fourth time, moving from September 16 to October 7, as reported by Michael Gordon and Rod Boone at The Charlotte Observer. Bridges pleaded not guilty to all charges in July and is currently a restricted free agent.
  • Hornets forward Gordon Hayward, frequently plagued by injuries, will be absent from today’s preseason debut after sustaining a knee injury during team practice, as confirmed by Rod Boone at The Charlotte Observer (Twitter link). “He’s eager to participate,” indicated head coach Steve Clifford. “He’s slightly frustrated, but it doesn’t seem reasonable to me or to [team trainer] Joe [Sharpe].”
  • If you missed it, Luke Adams authored a Community Shootaround article addressing key topics surrounding the Hornets as they gear up for the 2022/23 season. Share your opinions!
