7:12 pm: The official announcement from Denver confirms Booth’s extension.
“In a statement, Josh Kroenke expressed his confidence in Booth as our General Manager, highlighting his significant contributions to our success over the past five years,” stated Kroenke. Calvin Booth has a profound understanding of the game from various perspectives and possesses a remarkable basketball acumen. Kroenke eagerly anticipates working with Booth and the team to bring an NBA championship to Denver.
3:13 pm: The Nuggets general manager, Calvin Booth, has reached a long-term extension agreement that will keep him in Denver until the 2024/25 season, according to sources cited by The Denver Post’s Mike Singer. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed yet. Singer also mentioned (via Twitter) that almost the entire Denver front office has been extended through ’24/25.
Following the departure of former team president Tim Connelly during the 2022 offseason to take on a leadership role with the Timberwolves, Booth assumed the key position in making personnel decisions for the potential title contender in Denver this season.
According to Singer, Booth promptly dealt with the team’s perimeter defense by acquiring 3-and-D wing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and backup point guard Ish Smith earlier this summer, as well as signing the versatile free agent veteran Bruce Brown. Booth also selected rookies Christian Braun and Peyton Watson in the 2022 draft, and secured former two-time All-Defensive First Team center DeAndre Jordan in free agency.
With the dynamic scoring duo of guard Jamal Murray and forward Michael Porter Jr. preparing to return from injuries to support two-time reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic in bolstering the team’s offense, Denver appears to be in its best shape since the 2019/20 season, when they advanced to the Western Conference Finals.
