After a successful 2021-22 regular season, the Phoenix Suns faced a harsh downfall in the playoffs. Anticipations are high for another strong regular season ahead. According to the Arizona Republic, there’s a potential change on the horizon for the Suns:
Fans of the Suns might witness an increased presence of Mikal Bridges orchestrating plays this season.
He will not solely be stationed on the perimeter, nailing three-pointers, driving to the basket to complete plays, swatting shots, or locking down opponents’ key scorers.
Following Bridges’ impressive performance last season that earned him the title of Defensive Player of the Year runner-up, Suns’ coach Monty Williams is looking to assign additional duties to Bridges and his “companion,” Cam Johnson, who is also slated at the power forward position in place of Jae Crowder, occasionally taking charge of initiating the offense.
Williams aims for them to share this responsibility with primary ball handler Chris Paul, alleviating the burden on him of advancing the ball up the court.
