Renowned NBA player Donovan Mitchell, a three-time NBA all-star who recently made a move from the Utah Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers, shared his thoughts on the possibility of being traded to the New York Knicks, stating that it would have been a desirable outcome, as reported on NBA.com.
“Although the idea of a trade to the Knicks seemed appealing, once the trade was finalized and I understood the direction we were headed in, everything changed,” mentioned Mitchell in an interview.
Expressing enthusiasm for his new team, Mitchell added, “I am genuinely thrilled to be here, to be a part of this team, and to be embraced by this city.”
Speculation had been circulating for some time that Mitchell might be heading to his hometown team, the Knicks. However, negotiations between Utah and New York fell through, leading to Mitchell’s trade to Cleveland in exchange for Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, three first-round picks without protection, and two pick swaps.
With an impressive average of 25.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game last season for the Jazz, the 26-year-old Mitchell is set to make an impact in Cleveland.
Joining the Cavaliers, Mitchell will be part of a promising young lineup that includes Evan Mobley, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, Isaac Okoro, and Caris LeVert.
