The ex-All-American Texas Longhorns defensive tackle, Rodrique Wright, still holds onto the memory just like it was yesterday, of encountering Vince Young, the quarterback who was his teammate during the award ceremony of college football in Big Apple in December 2005. Wright was supposedly away, but Young had one final night and another award to look forward to, the outcome of the Heisman Trophy.
Back in Austin, Wright reminisced about a crucial recruiting weekend incident. Amidst wooing potential recruits, the team gathered upstairs to catch a glimpse of whether Young would clinch the trophy. Wright mentioned that everyone was convinced that Young was the rightful recipient of the award. Young, with a flawless record of 12-0 and 35 touchdowns, was considered the standout quarterback in college football due to his speed, size, and arm strength.
However, to everyone’s surprise, Reggie Bush’s name was announced instead of Young’s. Young then phoned Rodrique Wright and exclaimed “let’s go.” Merely weeks later, the Longhorns, Young’s team, were set to face the USC Trojans, Bush’s team, in the Rose Bowl for the BCS National Championship.Wright mentioned that Young possessed a fiery determination. Young carried that sense of defiance, believing they would put in the work and secure the victory. The defensive players responded, acknowledging that with Young fired up, they would reach new heights.
