Austrian skier Vincent Kreichmayr took charge in both the second and final training sessions on Thursday for the downhill event at the Stelvio course in the World Cup. Kriechmayr narrowly edged out Aleksander Aamodt Kilde by 0.04 seconds. Norwegian skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who recently clinched victory in the Val Gardena downhill, finished closely behind.
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde secured the Val Gardena downhill in Italy with a time of 1:56:13 seconds. He dominated the competition by almost a full second, marking his first World Cup triumph since February 2016. Kilde shared the podium with Austria’s Max Franz, who trailed by 0.86 seconds, while Swiss skier Feuz landed in third place, 0.92 seconds behind.
American downhill skiers shined in the race, with three of them securing spots in the top 10. Bryce Bennett finished fourth, trailing by 0.98 seconds, followed by Steven Nyman in fifth place, 1.05 seconds behind. However, Thomas Biesemeyer landed in 27th place, and Wiley Maple finished 28th.
Kriechmayr has claimed victory in three World Cup races throughout his career, including a couple of super-Gs and a downhill event. The downhill competition is set for Friday, followed by a super-G on Saturday. Super Giant Slalom, also known as super-G, is an alpine skiing racing discipline. Kriechmayr learned skiing from his father and a ski instructor from Salzburg, specifically in Obertauern. He also emerged victorious in the 2018 Winter Olympics.
