There is a chance that the NFL Draft may go crazy in the coming month as every team wants a quarterback. In the last ten days, we have seen both Bills and Jets make big trade deals to stay ahead and so who knows now how wild matters may get on the draft night.
It is obvious that even if you move at a higher position in the draft, there is still not guarantee that you will be selecting the right person. With six quarterbacks getting selected in the first selection round, the chances are that most of them will sputter out. In fact, previously there were only five quarterbacks selected in the first round which did not work well for any person except the Eagles as Donovan McNabb, Tim Couch, Daunte Culpepper, Akili Smith and Cade McNown were selected in the opening round of the 1999 draft.
If any person knows well on how to surprise people, its Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson who has had an amazing rookie year before going down in November due to an ACL injury. In an interview with CBS Sports HQ’s Reiter’s Block, Watson said that a person that pops up in his mind who has the potential to surprise a lot of coaches and the teammates as well is Lamar Jackson. According to Watson, Jackson is a smart guy and has the willingness to learn and be patient at the same time as every quarterback at some point is going to have to learn.
If Jackson is not the first quarterback selected in the draft, then it would not be a big deal, and Watson is just the right proof for it. Watson was the third quarterback selected in the 2017 draft and performed amazingly in the rookie season which is something that Jackson has the potential to do in the year 2018.
Notably, Jackson is one of the biggest wildcard entrants heading towards next month’s draft, with no one knowing where he would be taken in.
